In dealing with real estate in family law matters, the valuation of community property assets is paramount to negotiating equitable settlements. Division and/or disposition of real property in a divorce is one of the most complicated and important division of assets.
Included in this presentation will be a discussion of the practical impact of court decisions. There is a need for different types of property valuations: fair market value, rental value from the date of separation, retrospective appraisals to determine fair market value at various times of ownership , as well as the allocation of value to specific improvements that have been made to community or separate property.
Well respected throughout LA and Orange counties for his comprehensive appraisal work and expert witness testimonies, appraiser Larry Sommer is a consummate professional. Our PBA Real Estate Sponsor, Nancy Valentine has partnered with Larry to provide a lively discussion about Appraisals and Opinions of Value. Learn how both methodologies can be utilized in family law matters. When should an appraiser be used and when is it actually preferable to call in a local real estate professional? How are the reports utilized and why might they give varying results?
Come hear some entertaining real life examples from the trenches. Learn to integrate both sets of professionals into your family law cases, to the supreme benefit of your clients.
